Inbox Repair tool or Scanpst.exe facility is a solution for correcting various corruption issues within Outlook. This facility from Microsoft helps you in trying to repair header of PST file and delete from the PST file which does not recognized or understandable.

You easily find it on the Start Menu, under Programs

  • Accessories
  • System Tools. Use Start
  • Find or Star
  • Search for searching your system for Scanpst.exe. If you are a Windows 7 users, then type scanpst in Search dialog of Start menu.

    To run this solution, you must know the exact location of PST file to repair. While opening Outlook, you will find location of PST file from ‘File’, ‘Data File Management’ screen. Choose the PST file and press ‘Open Folder’ button.

    In Outlook 2010 location below IMAP pst file is used and the default location for POP3 PST files is in My Documents/Outlook files

    In Outlook 2007 or in some other older Outlook edition, the PST file is in the following location: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

    You can type or paste this shortcut in the scanpst dialog to easily find the location: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
